As\r\na culminating experience on the Unit on 9/11 and the War in Afghanistan, the\r\nContemporary Issues class had the privilege of speaking with and asking\r\nquestions via Google Meet with Dr. Tricia Bacon of American University about\r\nthe current state of Afghanistan. Dr. Bacon directs the Policy Anti-Terrorism\r\nHub at American University. She is the author of Why Terrorist Organizations\r\nForm International Alliances. Prior to her employment at American University,\r\nDr. Bacon worked on counterterrorism for over ten years at the Department of\r\nState, including in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research, the Bureau of\r\nCounterterrorism, and the Bureau of Diplomatic Security. Her work on\r\ncounterterrorism in the intelligence community received numerous accolades, and\r\nshe conducted research and analysis on counterterrorism in South Asia, North\r\nAfrica, East Africa, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
