Students learned about Lunar New Year by putting together an incredible display in the library these past weeks. Mr. Smith contributed many interesting items from his travels to China. We were thrilled to have him visit and talk about our "sister" school, JianHua, in Bejing. The paper lantern display showcases the hopes of students for the new year.
Mr. Verner, Principal from East Hampton High School came to visit EHMS to work on transitioning the 8th graders into high school next year. Letting them know all that is available, what kinds of classes to take, sports and clubs. It's a very exciting time for the students as they move on to the next stage after Middle School.

Due to the potential for icy roads and dangerous driving conditions later in the morning or early afternoon, there will be no school on Friday, February 4 for the East Hampton Public Schools.

Today the 8th Graders got to enjoy a Hot chocolate bar for those who completed the Book Bingo Reading Challenge.
During this week's math minutes students are given (4) 4's to form every whole number from 0-20 using all of the math operations.
Ms. Fielding in the Library has set up a Reading Challenge for each quarter by team. Check out to see who is in the lead for Quarter 2
Book Bingo has also been fun for the students. They are working towards a hot cocoa bar and cookie decorating for a prize.

The EarlyAct Club is collecting coats of all sizes for "Button Up Connecticut" to help those in need this winter season. Please bring in new or gently used coats into the front lobby where there is a collection box.

Panther Chefs this week made "Comfort Foods". Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, chicken pot pie and corn bread.
At the MathCounts meeting on Monday students were taking a sample test in preparation for the upcoming competition.
One of our 8th grades is working on developing a Chess Club during the month of February for their Capstone. We are calling for students who are interested in participating!
Chess Club will take place every Thursday in February from 2:35 - 4:00. There will be a teacher available overseeing the club. If your child is interested in participating, please have them complete the following Chess Club Registration google form for your child.
