World Language

The World Language Department challenges students to achieve communicative competence in a second language. Both the acquisition of a world language and an appreciation for different cultures are critically important for active participation in our ever-changing multicultural world. These communicative skills and global themes give students greater opportunities for employment and open avenues to a richer life. For this reason, all students are encouraged to study a world language. We offer a sequence of courses in French and Spanish that are aligned with the the ACTFL World Readiness Standards, the Common Core and are designed to lead to intermediate mastery of the basic skills necessary for understanding, reading, writing, and speaking the target language. We encourage our students to take a world language every year of their high school career. When interested, students have the option of studying an additional world language at any time.
