On Friday November 9th, East Hampton High School students had the opportunity to invite the veterans in their life, to the 3rd Annual Veterans' Day Breakfast and all-school assembly to honor those who have served our country. Guest Speakers were Veterans Dawn McDaniel and Dept. of CT State Surgeon Louis Carillo. They each shared a different perspective of what it means to be a Veteran. The event was prefaced by a weeklong Veteran memorabilia display arranged for by VFW Post 5095, so that our students could take it in on their way to and from their classes. The assembly was a true collaboration spearheaded by Social Studies teachers Melissa Reynolds and Samantha LaBonte. From the student volunteer committee who created speeches, decorated, and sent out invitation, as well as create a short film; to the EHHS Music Department who volunteered their time to perform some patriotic selections; to the cafeteria staff as well as faculty and staff members who created a delicious breakfast, and last but not least to the VFW Color Guard who was also present during the assembly, it was a wonderful group effort that honored those in our community that served their country.
As we celebrate Veterans Day on Sunday November 11th, please take a moment to express gratitude to all those who served to try and help make the world a better place.
