Covid-19 Update

SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED FOR TWO WEEKS BEGINNING THIS MONDAY.

Beginning Monday, March 16, the East Hampton Public Schools will be closed for a two-week period. Our tentative plan is to open again on Monday, March 30; however, reopening the schools will be based on the safety of our school community in consultation with our local health officials at the Chatham Health District. The schools will also follow directives by the Governor’s Office and the State Department of Education.

In order to provide the best continuity of instruction, we will begin distance learning effective Tuesday, March 17. This learning will include online learning and hard copy learning, depending on the grade level of each student. The High School, Middle School, and Center School will be open on Monday, March 16 between the hours of 9:00 AM to Noon for parents to pick up materials and a Chromebook, if needed. Students in Grades 8-12 have their devices, but schools will be open between 9:00 AM – Noon to get any items that may be needed for a two-week or longer period of time. Memorial School will be open to families in shifts by grade level. The times will be sent to parents directly from the school.

Parents will receive information directly from each Principal as to information on distance learning. Parents and students will also receive information from each teacher with specific instructions for learning. Our expectation is that learning will take place each day as we intend to count these days as part of our 180-day school year.

Please check e-mail regularly for updates from the Superintendent your teacher, and your school. We are working to keep families and teachers connected during this extended period. As new as this experience of distance learning may be, our intention is to make these weeks, a valuable learning opportunity.
